Sign-Up Time!
We are ready to begin sign-ups for volunteers and donations. Please find a list of countries that people have expressed interest in having included in the Multicultural Night. If you can help, please list what you are able to do/provide under the applicable country. This will let everyone know what is needed. Some of the ideas are country flag, map showing where the country is located, currency, clothing, traditional games, books, music, instruments, and food. If you are able to make a food item, please write the ingredients on an index card for display the night of the event (so if there are food allergies, they will know what they are able to sample). We have LCD projectors in the rooms if you want to show a PowerPoint about the country/people. If we are missing a country, please email Janelle Magyar and it will be added to the list.

First Meeting Notes
We had our first meeting at the end of the 2009 school year to discuss some of the things we would like to see happen at the Multicultural Night Celebration.
We talked about dividing the wings in the school, possibly by continent/geographic location. Visitors would go to different classrooms that would be made up to represent each participating country. Some ideas for inside the classroom are traditional musical instruments, clothing, money, toys/games, books, newspapers, national flag, a PowerPoint slide show of pictures relating to the country, national anthem or traditional music playing, storytelling, games, and food samples (with recipes displayed to avoid any food allergies). We also discussed making a passport that could be stamped at each country or possibly having the person's name written in the national script. We would like to have 1 or 2 people in charge of each represented country that would agree to organize the room, take charge of gathering materials, and enlist any help they need the evening of the event (the middle school students may be a good resource to help in the rooms).
We also discussed having entertainment in the gym to start off the event with students performing traditional dances, songs, and instrumentals.
Finally, we agreed we should have a booth set up at the summer Popsicles at the Playground gathering so people can learn more about how to get involved, sign up to volunteer, donate items, or perform, and get their email added to our list.
Our next meeting date will be Thursday, August 27th at 11:00 a.m. at CCA.
